Maribel Hernandez

Maribel Hernandez is an associate attorney with Weakley, Arendt & McGuire, LLP. She received her Juris Doctor in 2004 from San Joaquin College of Law, has a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Administration with an option in Human Resources Management from California State University, Fresno and studied Spanish at the University of Guanajuato, Mexico. Ms. Hernandez is admitted to practice law in all courts of the State of California, including the California Supreme Court. Ms. Hernandez is also admitted to practice law in the United District Court for the Eastern District of California, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Prior to pursuing a career in law, Ms. Hernandez worked as a professional in Human Resources for both public and private entities. During this time, she trained and advised employers in all matters of employment including wrongful termination, harassment, disabilities, leaves of absence, discrimination, wage and hour law, labor, recruitment, and discipline and termination. Ms. Hernandez also has extensive experience investigating claims of discrimination and harassment, drafting employee handbooks, designing benefit programs, managing, and she played a key role in the start-up of a national distribution center in Fresno, California.

Ms. Hernandez provides representation for businesses, public entities, and their employees. Her areas of focus include employment litigation defense, including sexual harassment, discrimination, wage and hour, wrongful termination, and retaliation. She also provides representation in civil rights and police liability litigation. As an attorney, Ms. Hernandez has provided training to employers on a variety of employment matters including prevention and defense of employee lawsuits and discrimination in the workplace.

Ms. Hernandez is a member of the Fresno County Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, Fresno County Young Lawyers Association and is on the Board of Directors for the Fresno County Women Lawyers. She is also actively involved in the community as a Board Member of the Valley Caregivers Resource Center and as a professional member of the Assistance League.
