James J. Arendt

James J. Arendt is a partner with Weakley, Arendt & McGuire, LLP. Mr. Arendt received his Juris Doctor degree in 1989 from San Joaquin College of Law. He is admitted to practice in the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California, the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, the United States District Court for the Central District of California, and all courts of the State of California, including the California Supreme Court.

Mr. Arendt’s practice has included representation of public entities, including cities, counties and school districts, as well as private business interests. He has also represented employees of public entities including police officers, deputy sheriffs, probation officers, district attorneys, district attorney investigators, correctional officers, and judges. He has tried numerous cases in both state and federal courts. His trial experience includes successfully defending cases involving wrongful death, civil rights and premises liability. Mr. Arendt has successfully handled appeals in both the Ninth Circuit and Fifth District Court of Appeals.

Mr. Arendt is a member of the Fresno County Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, the Northern California Association of Defense Counsel, the Defense Research Institute, the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), and the Central California Adjuster’s Association. Mr. Arendt was formerly a deputy sheriff with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Department. While employed as a deputy he was assigned to patrol, detectives, SWAT, boating enforcement unit, and dive team. He is now a Reserve Deputy Sheriff with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Department. Mr. Arendt is an instructor on civil liability in law enforcement at the State Center Regional Training Facility at Fresno City College and serves on the Board of Directors for Valley Crime Stoppers.
