Bio

Since joining Wilson Ratledge in 2004, Paul F. Toland’s practice has focused on workers’ compensation defense representing employers, insurers, and self-insureds.  Mr. Toland has extensive experience at all levels of workers’ compensation litigation including mediations, hearings at the Deputy Commissioner and Full Commission level, and the Court of Appeals.  He has defended numerous claims involving asbestosis, chemical exposure, and occupational diseases and continues to expand his current practice to include employment litigation on behalf of management.  Mr. Toland has also lectured to various professional groups on workers’ compensation issues and defense strategies.

Mr. Toland received his Bachelor of Art from Williams College and his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Suffolk University Law School in Boston, Massachusetts.  After graduating from law school, he practiced law for several years in Massachusetts, focusing on insurance defense litigation, including motor vehicle liability, premises liability, and construction claims.  In 1998, Mr. Toland relocated to North Carolina and was associated with the law firm of Brooks, Stevens & Pope, PA, practicing primarily in the area of workers’ compensation defense.
